Hi, I’m Melissa
My name is Melissa and I am a mother of a toddler (and another on the way). I am a massage therapist and reflexologist by trade, and I decided to take a risk and start a “side hustle” in November 2021. I had been working as a therapist for most of my adult life and it was time to put my energy into something that I was passionate about, and that is being creative.
How We Got Started
So, African Child was born! I saw a gap in the market for elastisized shorts, as well as kiddies clothing made in Shweshwe fabric. Having a toddler boy of my own, I also noticed not many places cater for little boys, especially items that are unique. I wanted to make clothing items that would be seen as unique in the wardrobe but also have everyday use.
My label has only grown from strength to strength and I hope to continue growing and becoming a name that people speak about as the unique gift store for fellow south africans abroad.
